About Sarah & Liz
When Sarah Fain and Liz Craft met in 9th grade in Kansas City, MO, they didn’t plan to move to Hollywood and become television writers and showrunners. But after college, they met up one night for drinks… and the next thing they knew they were moving into a (very tiny) beach house in Santa Monica. Knowing absolutely nothing about working in entertainment, they stumbled their way into a writing job on a Saturday morning NBC half-hour show.
They’ve learned a lot since then.
Twenty-some years later, Sarah & Liz have Executive Produced, created, and written for numerous television shows including the Emmy and Peabody Award-winning show The Shield, Angel, Women’s Murder Club (which they created based on the James Patterson novels), The Vampire Diaries, and Lie To Me. Liz and Sarah also created the ABC show The Fix with former Los Angeles prosecutor Marcia Clark. Most recently, they developed and were showrunners of FOX’s Fantasy Island.
They also co-host the hugely popular weekly podcast Happier In Hollywood, about how to survive the war of attrition that is life in Los Angeles (or anywhere else). So far, they’ve survived two WGA strikes, a WGA-agency campaign to end packaging, and a pandemic. Happier In Hollywood was recognized in Apple’s New & Noteworthy and has over five million downloads.
On the podcast they share insights from their own lives (personal and professional) that have helped them be happier, healthier, more productive, and more successful. Say ‘fuck’ in a meeting. Are you a Boulder Pusher at work? (If you’re not, you should be.) What is your personal canary in a coal mine? How do you get through a Season of Sacrifice? And does a perfect white t-shirt exist?
They also have a lot to say about writing, writers rooms, notes, executive meetings, pitching shows, managing tough bosses, tools of the trade, collaboration, and statement belts.
