Liz and Sarah, like you I am thinking whimsy. There is a swatch watch with a cartoon queen of england and corgi that immediately made me think of Liz. It immediately went to my wishlist.

When you talk about baby names, it made me rememeber a time I laughed hard I just couldn't stop. I remember reading this while pregnant, so it's been around at least 22 years. The writer lambasts bad baby names as mine from all sorts of parents sites way back in the days of list servs.

I looked it up to comment here, and I still find it funny.

Probably important to interject that my children are named Michaela and William. No weird spellings at all.

Is that video of the gardens at the Kauffman foundation in KC?

My wife, 21 mo/old daughter, 6 wk/old daughter, and I are moving there this fall and don't know a person or a thing about the place. But "Shuttlecock Field" is a top priority now.

I've been to that Art Museum in Kansas City back in 2017 when we visited to witness the solar eclipse from there. Besides the shuttle cocks, I remember dodging the sprinklers that were going off when we were walking around the grounds that morning. Also, I still have my souvenir shuttle cocks t-shirt (which I absolutely love).

I'd like to recommend a great baby names book called Two Dollar Radio Guide to Naming Your Baby by Travis Hoewischer. Not only does it have an extensive collection of names, but it also analyzes each name and seems pretty spot-on with their personality descriptions. It's also a great laugh.

I, too have unnatural attachments to lots of things. This year my husband and I decided to finally get our 1960s era kitchen remodeled. I've insisted on keeping the scalloped wooden beam over our sink and the bread drawer with the retractable metal cover. Not sure yet what I will do with either of these items, but both are historical and meaningful to me having lived with our kitchen for the 20 years since we bought our house.

I have unnatural attachments to many things. My Motobecane (French) 10-speed bike which some lowlife stole 35 years ago. I'm not over it ... yet. My 2003 Toyota Corolla. It has power windows, air conditioning, cassette and CD players, and cruise control, and that's all the fancy I need. It does NOT have a back-up camera, chimes and buzzers whenever anything happens in the world, nor heated steering wheel or seats. My husband's 2021 car has too many HELPFUL features and I hate driving it. I'm 72 and if I keep up routine maintenance on my Toyota, it may outlast my driving years. Maybe this is really just old people attitude, but so much of the latest and greatest gadgetry seems like a solution in search of a problem. I have other attachments, but I'll spare you.

Don’t spare me! It’s so fascinating— what we get attached to and why.
